"Stormy Weather............"

The winter was certainly in Winter League today. Whilst the course was in reasonable condition despite the amount of rain that had fallen over the last few days. the BBC had promised a window of decent weather up until 12:00, but this failed to materialise and as we set off on the first tee it was cold, wet and windy!

Wes informed us that he had been kept up by his kids all night and his round started off with a Drive that started right and went further right, further right than Mussolini and his brown shirts! We were not sure whether it reached the gardens, but it was definitely out of bounds!

He managed to find a big puddle on the 7th (as you can see) and amused us trying to retrieve his ball. Unfortunatley he did not amuse us further by falling in!!!

He managed to muster 9 points on the fornt nine and he could have given up and gone home, but he persevered and managed to score 13 points on the back for a, well less than stunning 22 points!

The point is though, this is winter league! This is winter golf! It's about keeping your swing going until the proper golf season starts in March (or maybe April) and having a laugh. It's the Craic!

When the weather is grim and your game is a bit on the rough side, it's about battling the elements and your game and getting through to the end.

When you do eventually put a decent round together, it feels even better when you recall the wet and cold day in November, when you carried on to the end and it feels all the sweeter.

There's always the flask of Jack Daniels to keep you going!

Winter golf..............Love it!!!

  1. Loving the commitment to retrieve your ball Wes. You should have taken your socks and shoes off and played it :)
Unfortunately Paz, I can't say I share your sentiments about winter golf. Cold, wet, cold, shanks, cold, thins, cold, 3 putts, cold, lost balls, cold, fats, cold, OOB! Having said that though, it can be funny. Especially when your playing partner carts it so far right off the 1st :D.
I reckon Wychwood should host a winter cross-country competition one frosty Sunday. 1st tee to 17th green. 18th tee to 7th green. 8th tee to 9th green. 10th tee to 12th green, etc etc etc.

  3. Jonesy.....I've been planning a route for a cross country for years. We used to have one at a previous club on Boxing Day! Good laugh and didn't take too long! Not sure about the route you suggest, but it would be a laugh!!!

In fact, it's going to be the subject of todays Blog.

You missed one of the positive bits about winter golf......if you play with me, the Jack Daniels Hip Flask comes out!!!
